What is it?
Each year, the digital world sets its sights on Austin, TX – where the SXSW film, interactive, and music festivals and conferences take place. Every edition of the event attracts a smorgasbord of digital startups from all corners of the globe, ready to compete for fame, glory and bragging rights.
But with so many companies fighting for attention, how do you block out the noise and get to the good stuff?
We at M-Brain did not go as far as try to predict the next Twitter, Foursquare or Highlight. We simply took the liberty of selecting the companies that, in our humble opinion, deserve a few minutes of your precious time at this maddest event in the global digital calendar.
Note: We are not officially connected to SXSW. We simply wanted to do this to save you a bit of time in Austin!
How we did it
We took a detailed look at each of the 48 SXSW 2013 Interactive Accelerator finalists and selected our very own Top 10. We then used our handy monitoring and analysis tool M-Adaptive to track the buzz around these startups in social media and ranked them.

This service allows businesses to track the reviews they receive on all the main review sites, such as Yelp, TripAdvisor and Foursquare among others.

Ever been nervous the minute before a big meeting because you didn’t know much about the person you were meeting? This app gives you a full brief on who will be sitting on the other side of the table.

Gui.de takes news and other online content and turns it into news format video. That way you can watch your favorite content instead of having to read it.

We love this one! Imagine being able to micro-crowdfund those guilty pleasures at the shop. It’s kind of like the Kickstarter for shopaholics.

This is the future of news consumption. Curate your own showreel by dragging news segments from some of the world’s best news outlet. We hope it looks amazing on tablets!

Wanderu is a journey planner on steroids. In addition, it introduces a service to a car-dependent nation, multiplying its value.

Meograph strikes us as a remarkably interesting storytelling tool that's able to draw from different content sources on the cloud. For now, the angles are journalism and education.

This service focuses on helping people make healthy choices in their everyday life, and we love it for that. The fact that they have just been acquired by Practice Fusion did not hurt them at all.
The Finnish Invasion
Being from Finland, we absolutely had to pick our favorite startups from this cold country that are making the trip to SXSW. Okay, there is also a Swedish company here. Be sure to check them out!
CubiCasa
CubiCasa creates realistic and interactive virtual models of structures being built so that they can be marketed effectively.
Playmysong
The Playmysong app turns your playlist into a social jukebox that you and your friends can control with your smartphones.
Delicode
Delicode is a Helsinki-based developer specialized in designing software and UIX for Kinect-like technologies.
Zee.do
Zee.do creates what's called Discovery-to-Deal brand games, making out-of-home advertising interactive through a mobile phone lens.
Good Vs Bad
This iOS app provides a very transparent way for customers to rate businesses. The app helps everyone speak up and makes it easier for managers to solve customer problems.
CGI Finland
A government-backed evangelism project that brings the leading edge Finnish computer-generated imaging industry to the world. Project head Mikko Honkakorpi is a veteran of the Finnish digital landscape.
